During the inspection tour of the University Student Library

As part of the commitment of leadership in achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of higher education, Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, conducted an inspection tour of the University Student Library at the Shuwaikh campus on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The visit aimed to assess the library's readiness to welcome the new academic year 2024/2025 and to address any challenges faced by students, academic staff, administrative personnel, and all students at Kuwait University.

During the inspection tour, Acting President of Kuwait University was accompanied by Dr. Hamid Al-Furaih; Assistant Vice President for Academic Support Services, University Libraries, Community Service, and the University Student Library, Fajer Al-Mujbil; Acting Director of the University Student Library at Kuwait University, Ms. Maram Al-Awadi, Supervisor of the Humanities Colleges and Specialized Deanships at the Administration of Media and Public Relations, in addition to several staff members at the University Student Library.

Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, emphasized that the inspection tour of the University Student Library was conducted to ensure that all services are facilitated for students in preparation for the academic year 2024/2025. He highlighted the importance of verifying the quality of services provided to students and stated that the university administration has successfully implemented a student reception schedule, from 8 AM to 8 PM, for the first two weeks of the academic year to streamline procedures and overcome obstacles for students. Previously, students were only received during the morning hours.

He further noted that, thanks to the efforts of the staff at the University Student Library, an online store system has been activated for students who cannot attend the university in person to purchase books, with home delivery services available within one to two working days. This ensures that the library is available to students around the clock. Additionally, procedures have been streamlined for students with disabilities. Prof. Al-Mutairi extended his thanks and appreciation to all staff members for their diligent and fruitful work around the clock, especially their preparations during the summer, and to the volunteer students who have been a great help to the university administration. He wished all students the best of luck.

In turn, Dr. Hamid Al-Furaih, Assistant Vice President for Academic Support Services, University Libraries, Community Service, and the University Student Library, noted that during the summer break, the University Student Library aimed to enhance its services by extending the reception hours to two periods instead of one. The library now operates from 8 AM to 8 PM, and the online store is available from 8 PM to 8 AM. He highlighted that Kuwait University students benefit from a 60% discount on books, paying only 40% of their value.

Dr. Al-Furaih emphasized the commitment to providing all services to students and overcoming obstacles they may face by offering a variety of books according to their specializations and increasing the number of staff working additional hours to meet the diverse needs of students, especially those with special needs. He added that the University Student Library administration has always diligently worked to improve its operations to achieve the desired goals in accordance with the university's regulations and laws.

On the other hand, Acting Director of the University Student Library at Kuwait University, Ms. Fajr Al-Mujbil, announced that Kuwait University, represented by the University Student Library, is ready to welcome the new academic year with high spirits. She wished all students success in the coming academic year and highlighted that the library will provide a wide range of books at the start of the first semester and facilitate direct sales. Additionally, the online store will be activated for students who face difficulties attending the university in person.

Ms. Al-Mujbil added that, for the first time, the University Student Library will be open continuously from 8 AM to 8 PM for two consecutive weeks at the beginning of the academic year. The library will offer books at a 60% discount for students and a 100% discount for students with disabilities, provided they present their university ID and class schedule, in accordance with the applicable regulations and laws.

At the conclusion of the tour, Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, expressed his gratitude to all the administrators and staff for their efforts in overcoming obstacles and serving the best interests of new and continuing students, as well as all university visitors.
