Kuwait National Robotics Championship at The Avenues Mall

Dr. Noura Al-Jeri: "Our aim is to keep pace with global and local trends towards digitization and modern technology."

As part of the activities of the 2nd Kuwait National Robotics Championship, held in collaboration with Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Computer Technical Guidance, Youth Public Authority, Zain Telecom, Al-Sayer Holding Company, Kuwait College of Technology, and Warba Bank, and in line with the principle of community partnership between Kuwait University and private sector institutions, the organizing committee set up an interactive display platform at The Avenues Mall. The platform aimed to introduce and explain the championship to the public, at the invitation of MABANEE Real Estate Company.
The event was attended by Acting Secretary-General of Kuwait University, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri, Acting Dean of College of Science, Dr. Mohammed Bin Sabt, Acting Assistant Dean for Planning, Consulting, and Training, Dr. Fares Al-Azmi, the Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Zaid Hussein Dashti, Deputy General Director of Youth Public Authority, Abdullah Al-Adwani, along with several representatives from the event’s partners.
The Executive Director of the championship and faculty member at the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Noura Al-Jeri, stated that this initiative aims to align with global and local trends towards digitization and modern technology. It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of technology in education, personal development, and community growth. She added that the Department of Computer Science, through this initiative, strives to attract young people and youth interested in technology, investing in their talents to prepare a generation capable of keeping up with technological advancements. This will enable them to become future leaders in technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Dr. Al-Jer added that visitors, including parents, students, and individuals with special needs, were welcomed and provided with explanations about the four competitions featured in the championship: the underwater vehicle competition (Sea Perch), the drone competition (Ariel Drones), the robot construction and programming competition (VEX Robotics), and the Open Innovation Challenge. She highlighted that visitors had the opportunity to interact with the robots and experience building and using them through mini workshops. Dr. Al-Jeri also noted that the interactive platform attracted nearly a thousand visitors throughout its display days.
Dr. Al-Jeri explained that a total of 100 teams from various age groups had registered, with six members per team, bringing the total number of participants to 600, ranging from elementary school to university level, for this edition of Kuwait National Robotics Championship. She clarified that, in the coming period, participants will undergo training and preparation to begin competing, with the goal of representing Kuwait in regional and international championships.
