The College of Public Health hosted Dr. Mohammad Al-Saeedan, public health specialist at the Ministry of Health, in a panel discussion entitled: "Public Health Professions in the Ministry of Health", in the presence of the Dean of the College, Dr. Alia Al-Mousa, among an audience of faculty members, staff and students.
In this regard, Dr. Mohammad Al-Saeedan, a public health specialist at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the field of public health is vast and diverse, and is not restricted to the Public Health Administration and Preventive Health Departments only, but rather includes other sectors and businesses such as infection prevention, combating chronic diseases, school health, and other departments at the Ministry of Health. He also added that public health – not only at a local but also at a global level – currently requires graduates with multiple skillsets, whether in processing numbers, health management and policy, or other specializations available at the College of Public Health at Kuwait University.
Dr. Al-Saeedan explained that the Ministry of Health is currently utilizing the college graduates with bachelor's and master's degrees to enhance public health outcomes in the State of Kuwait, taking into note that the public health sector is in a growing phase and needs innovation in the practice of Public Health to keep pace with the rapid changes in the field. Stressing the importance of field visits organized by the college to the sectors and departments of the Ministry of Health to learn about the nature of their work, and thus help students expected to graduate in choosing the appropriate places to join.
At the end of his panel discussion, Dr. Mohammad Al-Saeedan praised the mechanism for selecting the bachelor's programs of Health Sciences and Community studies at the college, which provides the students with the opportunity to choose the suitable path at the end of the third academic year, after completing the study of several important and mandatory skills, which allows them to have greater and broader understanding of the problems, issues and challenges of public health.
