Under the patronage and presence of Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, an inauguration ceremony for the "Chief Science Officers" program, 2024 edition, was held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the auditorium of the College of Life Sciences. The program is organized by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and will continue until August 1. It includes students from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, aiming to raise awareness among youth and acquaint them with various scientific fields, equip them with high life skills, and educate them on how to manage scientific information.
Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi inaugurated the ceremony, welcoming distinguished guests, ambassadors from neighboring countries including the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and Dr. Ameenah Farhan, the Director General of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. He expressed his appreciation for their commitment to opening the 2024 season of the "Chief Science Officers" program under the theme of "Science Generation". He also praised the fruitful collaboration between Kuwait University and Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, highlighting its pioneering role in supporting science and research, and encouraging international cooperation in spreading technological knowledge and exchanging experiences among students in various scientific fields. He concluded by expressing profound gratitude to the team responsible for organizing these events and to the participating institutions, appreciating their efforts in supporting the journey of human development to elevate the next generation.
Dr. Entesar Al-Hetlani, Associate Professor at the College of Science and Coordinator of the "Science Generation" program, said, "Today, we are present at the Chief Science Officers event under the auspices of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, which includes elite students from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. The scientific program aims to raise awareness among youth and introduce them to various scientific aspects, enabling them to acquire high life skills and manage scientific information."
She pointed out that the program has been in Kuwait for years, evolving and gaining experience over time, attracting large numbers of students. It includes workshops in various scientific fields and field trips to specialized locations in Kuwait, enhancing the participants' skills for future employment across all sectors.
Dr. Fahad Zaman, a member of the organizing committee for the "Science Generation" edition, stated that the program fundamentally revolves around scientific communication, aiming to develop personal skills, increase scientific knowledge, and assist students in choosing their future specializations over a two-week period. He praised the participation of our brothers from the United Arab Emirates for the second consecutive season, highlighting their significant contribution last season. He also expressed his happiness at the participation of students from our sister country Qatar this year.
He further explained that the program spans two weeks: the first week focuses on skills development and scientific knowledge, while the second week involves a project akin to a graduation project presented to approximately 200 people. He stated, "Throughout these two weeks, we aim to have specialists to assist participants in presentation skills, camera-facing skills, and public speaking skills. Additionally, we aim to offer the program annually to a batch of middle school students and another for high school students."
In conclusion, Dr. Zaman extended his gratitude to Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences for sponsoring such events. He also took the opportunity to encourage everyone to participate in next year's program and advised this year's participants to strive for excellence, emphasizing their role in shaping the future.
