Within the framework of the Research Cooperation Agreement between Kuwait University and Kuwait Oil Company, the Enhanced Petroleum Recovery Center at the College of Engineering and Petroleum held the second training workshop for Kuwait Oil Company engineers from 8th of July to 18th of July 2024, at the Center's laboratories in Sabah Al-Salem University City under the supervision of the Center's Director, Dr. Mishal Khalaf Al-Ghareeb from the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
The Importance of the workshop lies in transferring expertise in this field to the trainees in order to fulfill the company's vision regarding enhanced petroleum recovery applications.
The workshop included direct training of ten engineers from various relevant departments at Kuwait Oil Company to enable them to conduct laboratory tests regarding polymer immersion, and work on the techniques of polymer immersion in enhanced oil recovery operations.
The basics of polymer immersion were discussed during the workshop, including selecting polymers, preparing solutions, and injection techniques, in addition to laboratory-scale experimental setups to stimulate reservoir conditions, evaluation of polymer behavior, and performance metrics analysis such as viscosity, motion control and oil extraction efficiency. Data Analysis was also addressed, as well as challenges facing the expansion of laboratory experiments to field applications and recent developments in polymer technology.
The workshop was concluded in honoring the participants by Acting Vice President for Research at Kuwait University, Dr. Naser Al-Tannak, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Planning and Innovation Kuwait Oil Company, Engineer Eisa Al-Maraghi, and Manager of Innovation and Technology, Engineer Hamad Al-Zaabi, in the presence of Assistant Vice President for Research Implementation and Finance, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum, Prof. Khaled Al-Hazza, Acting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Surour Al-Otaibi, Acting Vice Dean for Planning, Consulting and Training, Dr. Abdullah Al-Ajmi and Acting Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department, Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dousari, among faculty members, researchers and officials at Kuwait Oil Company.
