During the Press Conference and Celebration Held by Kuwait University Regarding the University's Achievements in Global Academic Rankings and the Health Sciences Center.

In affirmation of its esteemed academic identity, prominent local and global stature, and international presence, Kuwait University held a press conference and celebration on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. The event commemorated Kuwait University's achievements in global academic rankings and announced the academic accreditation of the College of Pharmacy, as well as the accomplishments of the colleges within the Health Sciences Center. The conference was attended by Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, Acting Secretary General, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri, vice presidents of the university, deans of medical colleges, and many researchers.

Acting President of Kuwait University, Prof. Nawaf Al-Mutairi, expressed his pride in Kuwait University's achievements, which included several aspects: the rise of the university's rank in the QS World University Rankings due to the Health Sciences Center and the efforts of its staff; the accreditation of the College of Pharmacy's PharmD program by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs; the MPP journal; first issued at Kuwait University in 1989, achieving Q1 ranking among global medical journals; as well as clinical medical research at the university ranking 60th out of 1000 globally recognized medical colleges according to the US NEWS 2024, notably in clinically impactful research cited in the top 1%, and ranking 76th in citation impact. He emphasized that these accomplishments were the result of the efforts of various university sectors over an extended period, utilizing the excellence of national personnel. He extended thanks to the Health Sciences Center across its faculties and departments, as well as the Planning Sector, for their continuous contributions to the achievements that enhance Kuwait University's stature.

Acting Secretary General of Kuwait University and University Spokesperson, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri noted that these achievements are the fruit of the collective effort aimed at advancing Kuwait University and achieving further progress regionally and globally. He expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to this achievement and extended his congratulations to Kuwait University's family and its members on this distinction and significant progress in various fields.

The Vice President for Planning, Prof. Asaad Abdulaziz Al-Rashed, emphasized that Kuwait University has made significant progress in the latest QS World University Rankings 2025. The university has also shown improvement in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking in its latest edition for 2024, which considers several indicators related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), comprising of 17 goals. He pointed out that the College of Pharmacy has obtained academic accreditation for the PharmD program from the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs. Kuwait University has also achieved an advanced ranking among Arab universities as announced by the Association of Arab Universities.
He concluded by stating that the continuous effort to improve and advance in rankings requires concerted efforts, investment of time, and provision of resources. He stated that enhancing performance and improving rankings is not a final goal but a motivator for sustainable and continuous institutional development. He also extended his gratitude to everyone within the university community, including faculties, deanships, and university administration for their roles in this achievement.

The Acting Vice President for Research, Dr. Nasser Faisal Al-Tannak, expressed that the Research Sector continually strives to publish scientific research and provide the resources required to enhance the university's ranking in scientific research, and signing agreements and collaborations with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, as well as various entities. He affirmed the provision of all means necessary for researchers to elevate the level of scientific research at Kuwait University, thereby contributing to the university's overall advancement.

The Acting Vice President for Health Sciences Center, Prof. Osama Al-Saeed, emphasized that the Health Sciences Center is among the most important centers at Kuwait University. He expressed Kuwait University's pride in obtaining its first academic accreditation recently, starting with the College of Medicine followed by the College of Pharmacy, and the deans of the colleges who contributed to obtaining the academic accreditation, in addition to Kuwait University's other achievements that contributed to enhancing the global ranking. He highlighted the MPP journal achieving the Q1 ranking among global scientific journals, a first in Kuwait University's history. Furthermore, he noted that clinical medical research at the university ranked 60th out of 1000 globally ranked medical schools according to the US NEWS magazine for 2024, with clinically impactful research cited in the top 1%, and ranking 76th in citation impact.

Additionally, the Acting Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Maitham Abbas Khaja, stated that the recent academic accreditation achieved by the College of Pharmacy was the result of a vision and an implementation plan. Accreditation was obtained from the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs among 11 accredited colleges. The College of Pharmacy adhered to rigorous standards in teaching and collaboration with various sectors including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, and research institutions like the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and Dasman Diabetes Institute. The college's organizational structure also played a vital role. Through these clear standards, steps were taken to achieve academic accreditation, placing the college on the global map of academic excellence. Kuwait University takes pride in this achievement, which places it in the competitive arena among the world's top universities.

Acting Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Mona Sulaiman Al-Ahmad, noted that the progress of Kuwait University's ranking is nothing but a collective effort among all university affiliates. The College of Medicine extends congratulations to the College of Pharmacy for obtaining academic accreditation. She affirmed that the College of Medicine takes pride in its role in medical research, which has contributed to advancing the university's ranking through the contributions of researchers and the development of medical faculties and their members. She expressed gratitude to Kuwait University's community, its affiliates, and faculty members for these achievements, making it an exemplary model for future generations to follow.

Acting Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Rashed Hamad Al-Azemi, mentioned that Kuwait University's achievements are built on scientific foundations that have led it to the highest ranks under university administration. He affirmed that obtaining academic accreditation requires effort and time, sometimes spanning years, involving international committees and evaluations. The College of Medicine initiated this process, followed by the College of Pharmacy, and the College of Dentistry is currently actively pursuing academic accreditation as well. He encouraged other colleges to also seek international academic accreditation to enhance the university's ranking and reputation among global universities.

Acting Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Mohammed Shaban Nadar, also congratulated the administration of Kuwait University as a whole and the Health Sciences Center in particular on these achievements that reflect intensive effort. He confirmed that the College of Allied Health Sciences is currently striving to obtain academic accreditation, and he expressed gratitude to all members of Kuwait University, its administration, faculties, and teaching staff for their contributions in elevating Kuwait University's reputation across all fields
