The Ministry of Interior is Organizing Awareness Activities on the Occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Titled "Your Life, Your Decision," in Collaboration with Kuwait University

Under the patronage of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Salem Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and in conjunction with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26th, the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation and coordination with Kuwait University, organized awareness-raising activities titled "Your Life is Your Decision". The activities included a panel discussion and an awareness exhibition. The event was attended by the Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs, Major General Hamid Manahi Al-Dawas, and the Acting Secretary-General of Kuwait University, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri, along with several security leaders and representatives from various government entities.

Major General Al-Dawas delivered a speech on behalf of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior at the panel discussion, in which he conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, and his support for all efforts to confront the challenges posed by the devastating drug scourge. Major General Al-Dawas emphasized that the Ministry of Interior's continuous efforts in combating drug abuse and prevention. He highlighted a significant decrease of nearly 20% in drug trafficking crime rates during the years 2021/2022. He extended sincere thanks to Kuwait University for their collaboration in organizing the panel discussion and exhibition on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

In turn, the Acting Secretary-General of Kuwait University Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri indicated that Kuwait University is hosting an event related to the World Anti-Drug Day, organized by the Ministry of Interior and cooperation with the university, due to the severe negative impact of this scourge on the youth, who constitute the pillars of this nation and its future. He emphasized that Kuwait University's involvement in such issues reflects its social responsibility, with a role that is equally important alongside education and scientific research.

Director-General of the General Department of Anti-Drug Trafficking Brigadier Mohammed Qabazard highlighted the community partnerships executed by the department and the General Department of Security Media. These initiatives aim to protect society members and are prioritized across all departments of the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with various state institutions. He emphasized the General Department of Anti-Drug Trafficking's commitment to providing services to citizens and residents around the clock through the hotline (1884141), whether to request assistance or report drug-related crimes and offenders.

During the panel discussion, several emerging topics and issues related to drugs were discussed, including mechanisms for cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities to combat this scourge legally, methods of psychological treatment, and encouragement for voluntary rehabilitation of drug users. The exhibition featured participation from various specialized departments within the Ministry of Interior, as well as several ministries and state bodies concerned with these matters.
