The Kuwait Society Against Smoking and Cancer, in cooperation with the Administration of Security and Safety at Kuwait University, opened a Smoking Cessation Clinic in the College of Life Sciences on Monday, May 27, 2024. It was attended by a number of Kuwait University leaders, representatives of the Ministry of Health, and members of the Society, as well as a number of environmental police officers.
After welcoming the attendees, the Vice President for Planning Prof. Dr. Asaad Al-Rashed thanked those in charge of opening the first Smoking Cessation Clinic on campus, especially in the College of Life Sciences, which targets male and female students and university employees. He appreciated the efforts made to organize this opening, which comes in line with the university’s awareness role in highlighting the harms of smoking. He also thanked the Kuwait Society Against Smoking and Cancer for their cooperation and strengthening the principle of participation between civil society institutions and Kuwait University.
On this occasion, the Acting Secretary General of Kuwait University, Prof. Fayez Al-Dhafiri said that the presence of such a clinic at the university is a good opportunity for those who intend to quit smoking, especially since the methods of treatments used are therapeutic, and aligns with the approval of Sabah Al-Salem University City as healthy city achieving social and psychological integration.
Treasurer of the Kuwaiti Society Against Smoking and Cancer and the head of the (KAN) campaign Dr. Hessa Majid Al-Shaheen thanked those in charge of opening the clinic and explained the harms of smoking and its negative impact on society. She praised the new university edifice and the interest of the university administration in
the physical and psychological health of students and workers, looking forward to continuing this cooperation to increase community awareness and achieve a healthy environment.
In this regard, the Acting Director of the Administration of Security and Safety, Mr. Yousef Al-Khamis, called on students and employees to visit the clinic on its official schedule every Monday, stressing the importance of this achievement, and wishing safety for all.
