The British Council has nominated Dr. Hamad Yaseen, Associate Professor of Genomic Medicine at Kuwait University and the Dasman Diabetes Institute, as the global finalist from the Middle East and North Africa for the British Council Science and Sustainability Award 2024, among 1,400 applicants of specialists and scientists who have graduated from British universities.
Dr. Hamad holds an MSc. and PhD in Medical Genetics from the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University. The award is presented in recognition of his outstanding work in the field of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) research, where his research contributed to improving the diagnosis and prognosis of chronic kidney diseases and identifying the genetic mutations that cause it.
Dr. Hamad Yaseen said that he is focused on polycystic kidney disease, which is a genetic disorder that causes a cluster of cysts filled with fluid to grow in the kidneys and leads to their gradual enlargement and loss of function over time. His research has revolutionized kidney disease treatment by advancing the diagnosis and prognosis and offering more effective and tailored approaches to patient care.
He was proud to be nominated for this prestigious award, considering it an acknowledgment of the ongoing efforts in the field of scientific research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of polycystic kidney disease, stating that this achievement reflects the fruitful cooperation between scientists and academic and medical institutions, and highlights the importance of scientific research in progressing the field of genetic medicine.
At the end of his statement, Dr. Hamad Yaseen expressed his sincere gratitude to the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences for their continued support and contribution to health research and development in Kuwait.
